GBA and SECC Join DataGuard

The Green Button Alliance and the Smart Energy Consumer Collaborative jointly announced on the 27th of June that they are the first member-based organizations to join the DataGuard Energy Data Privacy Partnership Program.  DataGuard is a voluntary program that provides high-level principles around the treatment, retention, and disposal of customer data and offers a framework for establishing practices that safeguard the access, use, and sharing of customer data; which are described in its Voluntary Code of Conduct (VCC). Other groups with an interest in customer privacy are invited to join the program.  The GBA and the SECC will co-host a webinar about the DataGuard Partnership Program.

GBA member the Smart Grid Consumer Collaborative announced at its recent Annual Members Meeting and Fall Workshop that it has changed its name to the Smart Energy Consumer Collaborative (SECC) to reflect its expanded mission. Read more here

2017-06 In the Headlines

Advocacy group, Mission:data announced that utility Xcel Energy will Bring Smart Meters and Green Button Connect My Data to Colorado.

The Green Button standard is featured in the article “How Focused Data Use Analysis Leads to Energy Efficiency” by Klaar De Schepper in this June 2017’s issue of Buildings Operating Management magazine.

Green Button Alliance member the Smart Grid Consumer Collaborative’s (SGCC) consumer education site features a page dedicated to educating consumers about their Green Button data.

2017 Energy Thought Summit

The Green Button Alliance was a promotional partner of the Energy Thought Summit (ETS17) held on 27-30 March 2017 in Austin, Texas. The event gathered many of the industry's top creative minds to design solutions to shape the energy transformation. GBA members Exelon, Energyworx, and the Smart Grid Consumer Collaborative (SGCC) spoke at the event. A highlight of the event was ComEd CEO, Anne Pramaggiore's selection as the "2017 ETS Thought Leader of the Year" -- an award that honors an individual with an inventive, brave vision to inspire the global energy ecosystem. The GBA congratulates Anne Pramaggiore of ComEd on her award!  

Energyworx Founder and Chief Visionary Officer, Edwin Poot, spoke on the "Designing for Data" panel along with participants from Direct Energy and EDF Energy Services. Poot expertly addressed how the industry can get the most out of legacy systems and respond to data diversity challenges. Establishing a foundation of data quality is the key to success in advanced analytics and machine learning. SGCC's President and CEO, Patty Durand, moderated two panels at the event including "Customers-in-Charge -- Redefining the Utility-Customer Relationship" and "Ready for Action - How Utilities Can Drive Value for their Customer."

Last month, Green Button Alliance founding member PG&E made its Share My Data 2.0 available to its customers. Share My Data 2.0 is a Green Button Connect My Data implementation that enables PG&E customers to easily share their electric and gas usage and billing data with authorized third party vendors via an API on an on-going basis. Share My Data empowers customers by raising awareness of energy usage and encourages companies to develop new, innovative customer-focused applications. The Green Button Alliance is proud to welcome the Smart Grid Consumer Collaborative (SGCC) as an Affiliate Member. The SGCC is a nonprofit organization that works to learn the wants and needs of energy consumers in the United States, encourage the collaborative sharing of best practices in consumer engagement among industry stakeholders, and educate the public about the benefits of the smart grid. The Green Button Alliance has also joined the SGCC as an Affiliate Member. As a member of the SGCC, the Green Button Alliance will work to further educate smart-grid consumers about the full capabilities and benefits of Green Button energy usage data.

Green Button Alliance member Energyworx has been recognized in Gartner's Magic Quadrant for Meter Data Management for the second year in a row. Energyworx provides a new way of offering MDM—a pure-play and disruptive, cloud-based Software-as-a-Service for the energy and utility sector. Energyworx uses grid data from meters and other sources to power new use cases such as the Data Hub, which centralizes access to grid and meter data, enabling third parties to connect and offer new services to utility customers.
